How do I setup filters to handle spam?
How do I setup filters to handle spam?
Solution
Our server side spam filter by default will tag spam it finds as {spam?} - a low spam score - or {definitely spam?} - a high spam score. We don't automatically delete spam because of the possibilities of false positives. If you want to delete all tagged spam instead, you can do so in your control panel under "Mail -> Mailscanner Configuration". It is recommended you use filters instead, so that you can quickly review your spam folder for false positives before you delete them, but that is all up to you.
In a few quick steps you can setup your own folder. Providing a tutorial for every email client is not feasible, but we will use Outlook, as it's quite popular and chances are other email clients will have similar steps.
1. # In Outlook 2002/XP, create a new folder at the top level called Spam. This is where the email marked as spam will be stored.
2. Then create a new rule by clicking Tools in the main menu, then Rule Wizard, then New...
3. Select Start creating a rule from a template and select Move message based on content, then under Rule Description and click the specific words link.
4. Add two options, one for {Spam?} and one for {Definitely Spam?}
5. Under Rule Description click on the specified folder link and select the Spam folder that you created.
6. Then click Finish. You could also modify this rule to only check the Subject field rather than the Subject and Body.
